GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team won a non-conference game over the Marietta Pioneers Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome, 16-10.
Marietta opened up an early 2-0 lead, but Thiel responded with three goals, two of which were scored by
JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler), to hold a 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Tomcats went on to outscore the Pioneers 8-0 in the second quarter on their way to the non-conference win.
Raab scored seven goals, tying him for the second most in a single game in program history.
Kenny Hill (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) (3G, 1A) and
Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) (2G, 2A) tallied four points apiece while
Noah Lazek (Washington, Pa./Trinity) notched a pair of assists.
Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted), who won 17-of-25 faceoffs, led the Tomcats with 13 ground balls and added an assist.
Andrew Miller (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) led the Tomcats with three caused turnovers while recording six ground balls.
Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) also recorded six ground balls, scored a goal and caused a turnover.
Jayson White and Quinn Rundgren paced the Pioneers with three goals apiece.
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River), who earned the win, made five saves in the first half.
Michael Purnell (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel) made five saves in the second half. Ryan McLane made six saves for the Pioneers.
Thiel (2-2) will host the Wilmington Quakers (1-2) on Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game is set to start at 7 p.m.
