FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team continued play at the Gene Cusic Classic on Saturday as they fell 14-9 to Rockford University.
A two run second inning from the Tomcats put Thiel up 2-0 before the Regents answered in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-2 lead.
A run in the third and fourth innings by Thiel closed the gap to four after four.
Thiel tried to mount a comeback in the seventh and eighth as they scored five runs in the two innings combined to make it 10-8 headed to the bottom of the eighth.
Rockford answered with four runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach as Thiel was defeated 14-9 to fall to 2-5 on the season.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) collected a team-high three hits in the non-conference loss.
The Tomcats are back in action on Sunday to conclude play at the Gene Cusic Classic as they face Baruch College on Player Development Field #1, first pitch is set for 10:00 a.m.
