Thiel falls to Trine, Otterbein

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Thiel College softball team fell to Trine (12-5) and Otterbein (4-1) Thursday during play in the Spring Games at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

Trine scored a run in the first and three runs in the fourth before Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) got the Tomcats on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on a shot that sailed over the left field fence. It was her first home run of the season.

The Tomcats went on to take the lead 5-4 with a three-run sixth inning, which was keyed by Falce, Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) and Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg), who each collected one RBI in the inning.

Unfortunately for the Tomcats, the Trine Thunder plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on to win, 12-5.

Falce went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Fullmer absorbed the loss for the Tomcats.

Otterbein held a 3-0 lead after two innings and led 3-0 midway through the sixth. Thiel scored in the bottom of the sixth when Kelley singled to right field, allowing Fullmer to score.

Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk), Kelley and Falce each recorded one hit against the Otterbein Cardinals.

Kelley took the loss in the second game. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
