BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win on Tuesday night as they defeated conference opponent Medaille College on the road, 3-1.
The Tomcats took the first two of the sets the match 25-17 and 25-21 to build a 2-0 set lead heading to the third.
In the third, Medaille answered with a 25-21 set victory to make it 2-1. Thiel closed the match with a 25-19 fourth set victory.
Mitch Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) (15),
Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) (12), and
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) (10) each collected a double-digit kills in the four-set victory. Hoffman also recorded a team-high four blocks.
With the win, Thiel improves to 12-9 overall and 7-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). Thiel currently sits atop the conference standings.
Thiel is back in action on Saturday as they host an AMCC Quad Match at Beeghly Gymnasium. Thiel will face Wittenberg University at 10 a.m. before facing Penn State Altoona at 4 p.m.
