BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team won a pair of Allegheny Mountain College Conference (AMCC) matches on Saturday to move to 6-1 in conference play on the year.
Thiel opened the day with a 3-1 match victory over Hiram College. The Tomcats built a 2-0 set lead before the Terriers extended the game by taking the third 25-23. Thiel ended the match in the fourth with a decisive 25-16 result.
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) collected 14 kills in match number one, while
Ryan Sumarsono (Victor, N.Y./Victor) added 16 digs, and
Colton Greenlee (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) blocked four attacks.
Thiel's second match was another 3-1 final in favor of the Tomcats. Thiel downed Geneva by taking the first, third, and fourth sets for the conference victory.
Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) racked up a game-high 16 kills and
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) dished out a game-high 51 assists.
With today's sweep, Thiel owns a 6-1 record in AMCC play.
Thiel returns to action on March 15
th as they host the University of Mount Union and Neumann University for a non-conference tri-match beginning at 4 p.m.
