GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a nine-inning contest, 14-4 to the University of Mount Union at Tomcat Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders struck first in the second with as Billy Goodall singled up the middle to score a runner, making it 1-0 after two.
Mount Union scored again in the fourth off a Thiel fielding error to make it 2-0 before answering again in the fifth with another run.
Thiel got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) doubled to right field that scored both
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and
Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong). Later in the inning,
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) doubled to left to score two more runs. Thiel led 4-3 after five.
The Tomcats would not score another run well the Purple Raiders would go on to score 11 unanswered runs to take the game 14-4.
Three Tomcats collected at least two hits in the nonconference loss (Fowkes, Lam, Patrice).
Thiel returns to action tomorrow as they face the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, first pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Tomcat Park.
