ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Thiel College men's volleyball team concluded play at Mount Union's Purple Raider Rumble on Saturday with wins over Trine University (3-1) and Thomas More University (3-1) and a loss to Fontbonne University (3-0).
In Thiel's 3-1 win over Trine, the Tomcats offense clicked as three players collected double-digit kills as
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) collected 13 kills, while
Mitch Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) both added 10 kills, apiece.
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) dished out a game-high 25 assists in the four-set victory.
Against Thomas More, Thiel picked up another 3-1 nonconference victory by taking the first two sets before splitting the final two sets to take the match.
Ryan Sumarsono (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led Thiel in both assists and digs in the match with 14 and seven, respectively.
The Tomcats concluded the Purple Raider Rumble with a mark of 2-2 to improve to 3-7 on the year.
Thiel is back in action on Wednesday as they host Medaille College for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) contest. The conference matchup is set to begin at 7 p.m.
