HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Thiel College men's volleyball team was swept 3-0 by the fourteenth ranked Golden Eagles of Juniata College on Friday night.
Despite falling in straight sets Thiel was close in each set and never dropped a set by more than four. (25-21, 25-22, 28-26).
The Tomcats were the most competitive in the third and forced the set past 25 points but fell 28-26 as the Golden Eagles closed out the match.
Thiel had three players register double-digit kills including
Mitch Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan),
Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), and
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton).
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) added a game-high 34 assists and
Ryan Sumarsono (Victor, N.Y./Victor) collected seven digs, which was also a game-high.
Thiel returns to action tomorrow as the face off against two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opponents in a tri-match in Altoona, Pa.
The Tomcats face off against PSU-Altoona at 1 p.m. before facing Wittenberg University at 3 p.m.
