WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team was edged in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road Wednesday by the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 75-72.
In a game that went back-and-forth for 40 minutes, the Tomcats trailed by a point (38-37) at halftime.
Terrance Holloway (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) completed a 3-point play with 1:03 remaining in regulation to give Thiel a 72-71 lead. However, Waynesburg went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe down the stretch, and Thiel's last-second 3-pointer fell wide of the mark.
Holloway scored a game-best 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the Tomcats. Holloway made 7-of-16 shots from the floor and went 7-of-9 from the line.
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
Michael Ricks (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland School of Architecture and Design) scored nine points off the bench while
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) grabbed six rebounds and scored five points.
Matt Popeck recorded a double-double for Waynesburg with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brennan Smith scored 15 points and tallied six rebounds. Nate Gearhart and Jake Dougherty chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Tomcats will finish the regular season Saturday when they face the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on the road. The PAC game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
