YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) scored 12 points apiece for the Thiel Tomcats in a 101-53 exhibition loss against the Division I Youngstown State University Penguins Tuesday at the Beeghly Center.
Michael Ricks (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland School of Architecture and Design) led the Tomcats with seven rebounds and contributed eight points.
Six Penguins scored in double figures. Darius Quisenberry led YSU with 16 points while Jamir Thomas and Donel Cathcart netted 13 points apiece. Michael Akuckie, Garrett Covington and Naz Bohannon scored 11 points apiece.
Bohannon and Thomas led the Penguins with eight rebounds apiece.
Tuesday's game was the 18
th meeting between YSU and Thiel in a series that began in 1927-28. Thiel is 4-13 against YSU in the all-time series.
The Tomcats will open the 2019-20 season Friday when they take on the Division II Edinboro University Fighting Scots on the road. Tipoff at McComb Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7 p.m.
