GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team earned a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the Saint Vincent Bearcats 69-53 on Wednesday.
Thiel jumped out to a 12-0 lead within the first seven minutes of action and never conceded.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) led the early offensive explosion with four of those 12 points.
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) added a three-pointer each during the run to help secure the early lead.
The Bearcats missed their first 11 shots during The Tomcats' early run.
With the momentum of 12 unanswered points Thiel used the remaining time in the first half to take their largest lead of the night (40-17) into the halftime break.
Down by 23 to begin the second half of action, Saint Vincent began the next frame on an 18-9 run to cut Thiel's lead to 49-37 with 11:44 remaining in regulation. A 12-point deficit was as close as the
Tomcat defense would allow the Bearcats to get to the lead.
Tejumola finished the night with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He was perfect from both the free throw line (4-of-4) as well as the three-point line (1-of-1).
Gosley was also perfect from the free throw line (5-of-5) and completed his night with 14 points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Chima Omeihe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) hauled in a game-best 19 rebounds, nine of which were offensive boards, to help the Tomcats score 19 second-chance points. Ladell Trotty was the last Tomcat to record 19 rebounds in a single game, accomplishing the feat in a 56-49 win on the road over Grove City on Jan. 18, 2012.
Gissenson Bonhomme (Sunrise, Fla./Westlake Preparatory) chipped in with 13 points in the win.
Saint Vincent was led by David Stephen, who scored 18 points and recorded seven rebounds.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they host the Case Western Reserve Spartans. Tipoff for the non-conference game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
