Tomcats defeat Presidents, Bearcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team went 2-0 Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match against the Washington & Jefferson Presidents and Saint Vincent Bearcats at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Thiel swept W&J 25-23, 25-19, 25-15.
 
Natalie Zucco (Cleveland, Ohio/North Royalton) recorded 17 digs and 16 kills against the Presidents. Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) led the Tomcats with 39 assists while Taylor Williams (Tuscarawas, Ohio/Indian Valley) led the team with 25 digs. Abby Triskett (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) contributed 13 digs while Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) notched 11 kills. Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) chipped in with six kills and four blocks.
 
Mackenzie Coughlin paced the Presidents with 26 digs while Haley Nelson tallied 13 kills. Mallory O'Brien logged 19 assists.
 
Thiel defeated Saint Vincent in four sets. After falling 25-20 in the first set, Thiel went on to win 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.
 
Zucco recorded match-bests against the Bearcats with 21 digs and 17 kills. Grubbs handed out a match-best 43 assists. Rebecca Dougherty (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank) tallied 15 kills while McDonald registered nine kills and five blocks.
 
Sierra Widmar paced the Bearcats with 22 assists while Madi Marsico recorded 15 digs. Madison Reeping and Sara Wozniak came up with 12 kills apiece.
 
The Tomcats, winners of four of their last five contests, will take on the Presidents on the road Tuesday. The PAC match will begin at 7 p.m.
