GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference game to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on Wednesday.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Alvaro Viadas capitalized on a pass from Michael Komaniak giving Washington & Jefferson the 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, the Presidents would double their lead to take a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Washington and Jefferson's defense held strong for a majority of the second half.
Andreas Hauge Jonassen (Stavanger, Nor/) scored his first goal of the 2019 season after Thiel drew a free kick just outside the penalty box in the 88
th minute. A 2-1 deficit is as close to the lead as the Tomcats would get.
Defensively,
Noah Brieck (Kensington, Ohio/United Local ) tallied five saves during his first collegiate start.
Thiel will be back in action for a PAC road contest against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
