Tomcats sweep Gray Wolves and Spartans in Cleveland

Senior Jason Miller collected a technical fall and a major decision at 157 pounds in Wednesday Night's CWRU Throwdown
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Thiel College wrestling team picked up two dual victories on Wednesday night at the CWRU Throwdown. The Tomcats defeated Lourdes University (26-23) and Case Western Reserve University (24-14) to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Against Lourdes, Thiel rallied from being down 14-6 as they rattled off two straight major decisions at 157 pounds and 165 pounds. Jason Miller (Clarksville, Pa./Jefferson Morgan) at 157 pounds earned a 10-1 major decision over Garrett Carter; well Austin Bonacci (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) at 165 pounds collected a 12-3 major decision over Grant Pittroff.

Down 23-14 with two matches remaining the Tomcats needed to close the gap in hurry and they would as Gage Gladysz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) at 197 pounds pinned Noah Nuno (1:42) to put Thiel within striking distance, 23-20. Gavin Colligan (Portville, N.Y./Portville) at 285 wasted little time sealing the match in favor of the Tomcats, the heavyweight pinned Alec Moore-Nash just 45 seconds into the first to give Thiel a 26-23 victory over Lourdes.

The Tomcats got off to another slow start in their second match as the Spartans built an 11-0 lead after three matches. Freshman Lukas McClain (Ridgeway, Pa./Ridgeway Area) at 149 pounds put Thiel on the board with an 8-7 decision over Brandon Barton to make it 11-3. Miller picked up his second victory of the night with a 16-1 technical fall over Jack Chipps to put Thiel within three, 11-8.

Freshman Dylan Proper's (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood High School) major decision at 174 pounds sparked four straight Thiel victories to close out the match as Dominic Farabaugh (Loretto, Pa./Penn Cambria) pinned Brian Kent at 184 pounds followed up by decisions by Gladysz and Tyler Brooks (Venango, Pa./Saegertown) at 285 pounds. Thiel took the dual 24-14 over Case Western.

With a pair of victories, Thiel improves to 4-1 on the season and will next travel to Bradford, Pa. to take on the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford and SUNY-Brockport on Saturday.
