BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team split a pair of nonconference matchups on Friday night.
The Tomcats defeated the hosting Golden Eagles of Brockport 3-1 to open the day. After dropping the first set 25-20, Thiel stormed back to take the next three sets and the match 3-1.
Each of the Thiel's set victories were tightly contested (25-22, 26-24, 26-24) as the Tomcats collected their first win of the year.
Leading the way for the Tomcats offensively was
Rebecca Dougherty (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank). Dougherty posted a season-high 11 kills en route to a four-set victory.
Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) and
Abby Triskett (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) also collected team highs in assists and digs, respectively.
Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) recorded a game-high five blocks.
The Tomcats would drop game two by a final score of 3-1 to Frostburg State University. Thiel won the opening set convincingly (25-18) before Frostburg went on to win the next three sets to take the match (25-20, 25-17, 25-17).
Thiel's offense was kept in check as no Tomcat recorded double-digit kills. Triskett recorded a game-high 22 digs in the four-set loss.
With the split, Thiel sits at 1-6 on year. The Tomcats continue play at the Brockport Invitational on Saturday with a pair of nonconference games, first up will be SUNY-Postdam at 11:00 a.m.
