STEUBENVILLE, Ohio –
Luke Lindeman (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) scored with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation Saturday to lift the Thiel College men's soccer team to a 3-2 season-opening non-conference win on the road over the Franciscan Barons.
Franciscan held a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals from Gustavo Gutierrez and Sebastian Koehler, but the Tomcats scored three unanswered second-half goals to earn the win.
Zachary Oliver (Bridgeport, Ohio/St. Clairsville) scored Thiel's first goal in the 63
rd minute on a pass from
Christopher Felger (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk). The Tomcats tied up the game roughly four minutes later when
Connor Swatts (Greenwood, Ind./Whiteland Community) found the back of the net on a pass from
Tyler Feciuch (Kent, Ohio/Field).
With less than 10 minutes to play, Lindeman's goal came off a free kick.
Cole Duskey (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) picked up the assist on the game-winner.
Christian Conrad (Barberton, Ohio/Central Catholic) made eight saves in 90 minutes of work to earn the win.
Thiel will take on Pitt Bradford on the road Monday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
