Dellert’s six RBIs push Thiel past Geneva

Tomcats clinch fourth consecutive postseason appearance

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split its final regular season Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Geneva College at Tomcat Park Friday.

Thiel fell 7-4 in game one before an offensive outburst in game two gave the Tomcats the win 19-8 in the rain-shortened game.

In game two, Drew Dellert (Dover, Del./Poly-Tech) got the Tomcats on the board in the second with a 2-RBI double before Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) added a sacrifice fly to add another run. Thiel led 3-0 after two.

Geneva answered with a two-run third to close the gap to one headed to the bottom of the inning. Dellert collected another 2-run hit followed by RBIs from Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport), Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford), and Lam to extend the Tomcat lead to seven runs, 9-2.

The Tomcats collected nine more runs over the final four innings before officially ending at 6.2 innings due to rain.

Christian Aldrich (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic) collected three doubles in game two after adding a triple and a double in game one. Grice collected a season-high four RBIs in game two.

Tomcat starter Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) (3-1) went five innings and allowed four earned runs en route to the win.

Dellert collected his six straight multi-hit game and has gone 19-for-28 (.678) at the plate during that stretch.

With the split, the Tomcats clinched a fourth consecutive PAC Baseball Championship Tournament appearance, seeding still to be determined.

Before the PAC Tournament the Tomcats will play their final regular season game of the year against non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m Monday at Tomcat Park.
