GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team fell 9-1 in its final regular season game to non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend.
After two scoreless innings for both sides, Penn State Behrend scored runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth to jump out to an 8-0 advantage.
Thiel scored its lone run in the eighth as
Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) singled through the left side to score
Aidan Arkwright (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) to make it 9-1.
Marino collected a team-high three hits on the day and
Drew Dellert (Dover, Del./Poly-Tech) extended his multiple hit game streak to seven games.
With the loss, Thiel falls to 15-22 overall.
The Tomcats will now go on to compete in their fourth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship tournament beginning Thursday. The third-seeded Tomcats will face the second seed Thomas More College at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pa. first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. The Tomcats split with the Saints in the regular season.
