Tomcats hold off Bison, pick up pair of PAC wins

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team picked up two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) wins on Monday as they swept Bethany College.
 
The Tomcats took game one 8-6 before taking game two 9-6.
 
Bethany was in control of game one in the early going as the put up four runs in the second to make it 4-0 Bethany after two.
 
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) put the Tomcats on the board as he doubled to left to score Christian Aldirch to make it 4-1 Bison after four.
 
Bethany added one run in both the fifth and sixth to extend their lead to 6-1.
 
In the seventh, Thiel poured in five runs, three of which came from Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro)'s three-run homer to tie the game at 6-6. Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) doubled to center field to score Zach Hudecek (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Giesey in the eighth to give the Tomcats a lead they would not give up.
 
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) (2-3) collected the win for the Tomcats.
 
Game two saw the Bison comeback from a 7-1 deficit. Bethany used a five-run eighth to pull within one run before Thiel answered in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-6.
 
Hudecek collected his third straight three-hit game in game two as he totaled six hits on the day. Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) and Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) both had two hits in game two.
 
Tomcat starter Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) (3-1) earned the win in seven innings pitched. Carducci allowed just five hits and one run (unearned). Spencer Rinaldi (Springfield, Ohio/Northwestern) came on for the close and picked up his fourth save of the year.
 
With the sweep, Thiel improves to 10-12 overall and 6-2 in the PAC.
 
The Tomcats face third-ranked The College of Wooster tomorrow at Tomcat Park, first pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
