RICHMOND, Ind. –
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored with 61 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday to lift the Thiel College women's lacrosse team to a 14-13 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) win on the road over the Earlham Quakers.
The Tomcats trailed the Quakers 7-5 at halftime but outscored the home team 9-6 in the second half to earn the conference win.
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored the equalizer for the Tomcats with 10:32 remaining in the contest and gave her team the lead 19 seconds later.
After the Quakers forced an 11-11 tie, Quinn scored two more goals to give the Tomcats a 2-goal cushion with 4:22 left to play.
Earlham went on two score two goals just 34 seconds apart to force another tie at the 2:02 mark, which set the stage for Scherer's game-winner which came on a free position shot with just 61 seconds left in regulation.
Quinn and Scherer handled all of Thiel's scoring. Quinn scored eight goals on 16 shots while Scherer scored six goals on 14 shots.
Olivia Wallace led the Quakers with four goals. Emma Lady also recorded four points on three goals and an assist.
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 11 saves to earn the win for Thiel. Jordan Blackburne made 10 saves for the Quakers.
The Tomcats, who have won two of their last three games, will face the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on the road Wednesday. The ORLC game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
