NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team lost an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) game on the road Thursday to the Westminster Titans at Harold Burry Stadium, 9-6.
The Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) got Thiel on the scoreboard late in the first half on an unassisted goal, but the Tomcats trailed 4-1 at halftime.
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Kristyn Kinner (Alba, Pa./Troy) each scored a goal for Thiel early in the second half to cut Westminster's lead down to 5-3. However, the Titans responded with three straight goals and held on for the conference win, 9-6.
Sweeny and Scherer led the Tomcats with two goals apiece. Kinner and
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) also chipped in with one goal apiece.
Emily D'Amico (3G) and Sarah Nutter (1G, 2A) led the Titans with three points apiece.
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 11 saves for Thiel while Matalyn Holland made 12 saves for Westminster.
The Tomcats will take on the Earlham Quakers on the road Saturday. The ORLC game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
