GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader today at Tomcat Park against Waynesburg University. Thiel took game one 13-3 (eight innings) and fell in extras 7-6 (12 innings) in game two.
The Tomcats jumped on the Yellow Jackets for three runs in the first to open the scoring. Thiel struck again in the third as
Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville),
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford),
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), and
Drew Dellert (Dover, Del./Poly-Tech) each collected RBI singles in the inning to make it 7-0 after three.
Thiel continued to pour on the runs until they collected the win in the eighth on the ten-run rule, 13-3.

Matt Gayda (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) (2-1) collected the win as he went seven innings allowed just two runs and retired five on strikes.
Game two was a back and forth contest as the game needed to go 12 innings before it was decided.
Thiel sped out to another three run lead in the first before Waynesburg was able to tie the game in the sixth.
Both the Tomcats and Yellow Jackets remained tied at 5-5 after nine.
In extras both teams had chances to put the game away but it came down to the 12
th as Waynesburg's Justin Buberl singled through the left side to score what would be the deciding run.
The Tomcats quickly got down to their final out in the 12
th before Giesey and Marino reached on singles to land on second and first. Rago grounded a ball to the left side that Waynesburg turned into the final out.
Dellert collected eight hits on the day and went a perfect 5-for-5 in game one.
With the split, Thiel stands a 14-20 overall and 10-6 in the PAC.
Thiel honored its nine senior members of the team during pregame.
The Tomcats are back in action on Friday, May 4 as they host Geneva College for a PAC doubleheader at Tomcat Park. Game one's first pitch is set for 10:00 a.m.
