GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team fell 10-8 to non-conference opponent Allegheny College on Wednesday at Tomcat Park. Thiel collected 15 hits on the day in the loss.
 
Allegheny opened the scoring in the second as they collected four runs. Thiel answered with two runs in the third to cut the lead in half after three.
 
A sacrifice fly and a RBI groundout extended the Gators' lead back to four in the top half of the fifth before 
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) singled to left to score 
Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) in the bottom of the inning to pull the Tomcats back within three. Thiel trailed 6-3 after five.
 
Down 8-3 in the eighth, Thiel clawed back in the game as 
Alec Varley (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold) doubled to right to score two to make it 8-5 before 
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) singled through the left side to score two runs of his own to put Thiel down one, 8-7.
 
Allegheny added two runs in the ninth to make it 10-7 before the Tomcats came up for their final at bat. In the ninth, 
Drew Dellert (Dover, Del./Poly-Tech) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a wild pitch but it proved to be the lone run the Tomcats would score in their comeback attempt, Thiel fell 10-8.
 
Varley collected a season high four hits as he went 4-for-5 on the day with two runs batted in.
 
With the loss, Thiel falls to 13-19 overall on the year. The Tomcats will host Waynesburg University on Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Tomcat Park. The team will also hold its Senior Day before the game.
