GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team fell 11-7 in a non-conference matchup against the University of Mount Union Sunday.

Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) continued to swing a hot bat this weekend as he homered in his first at-bat of the day to make it 1-0 in favor of Thiel.
Thiel continued to build an early lead as
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) singled to right field to drive in
Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport), and Patrice plated his second run of the day on an RBI-single to make it 3-0 after two.
Alec Varley (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold) added another run on a sacrifice fly to right to score
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), Thiel held a 4-0 advantage after three.
Tomcat starter
Matt Gayda (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) kept the Purple Raiders scoreless until the fifth when Joey Keleman doubled to center to put Mount Union on the board. Thiel added another run in the fifth when Grice scored on a balk to make it 5-1 after five.
Mount Union scored three runs in the sixth to pull within a run. Grice and
Alec Varley (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold) each collected RBI singles in the bottom of the inning to extend Thiel's lead to 7-4.
From the seventh on it was all Mount Union as the Purple Raiders poured in seven over the final three innings to take the lead and the game 11-7.
Patrice, Grice, and Lam each collected two hits apiece on the day.
With the loss, Thiel fell to 13-17 overall. Thiel will host 21st-ranked La Roche College Monday at Tomcat Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
