LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Saturday. Thiel fell 3-2 in the first game before taking game two, 7-5.
In game one, Tomcat starter
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) settled in and cruised for seven innings allowing just three hits and one run. Saint Vincent starter Jimmy Malone was equally as good as the left-hander went eight and a third and allowed just one earned run.
Zach Hudecek (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) blasted his team leading sixth homerun of the year to make it 2-1 in favor of Thiel in the eighth.
The Bearcats answered in the bottom of the inning as Bobby Finn homered to left to tie the game at 2-2.
Saint Vincent converted in the ninth with two outs as they took game one on a walk off single from Stone Holtzman. Thiel fell by a final score of 3-2.
Game two started with the Tomcats down early again,
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) hit his second homerun of the year to keep the within one after five.
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) smashed a two-run homer in the sixth to give Thiel their first lead of the game. But Patrice was not done as he added an insurance run by knocking in Hudecek on an RBI-single to left in the eighth. Patrice would go 4-for-5 in game two with three RBI's.

Griffin Curry (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) (2-1) collected his first career complete game victory as the right-hander allowed nine hits and five runs to earn his second win of the year.
With the split, The Tomcats sit at 13-16 overall and 9-5 in PAC play. Thiel hosts the University of Mount Union on Sunday in a non-conference nine-inning contest. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday's non-conference game against La Roche College at Tomcat Park has been moved to Monday due to the expected weather forecast for Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
