CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-12 Saturday on the road by the Mount St. Joseph Lions.
The game was tied 7-7 at halftime, but the Lions outscored the Tomcats 8-5 in the second half to earn the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) win.
The Tomcats went ahead 12-11 with a little more than 10 minutes remaining in regulation after
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each scored unassisted goals. However, the Lions went on to finish the game with four unanswered goals, three of which were scored by Brianna Brannon.
Scherer led the Tomcats with five goals while Quinn and
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) scored three goals apiece.
Maria Sams led the Lions with five points (3G, 2A).
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 15 saves for the Tomcats. Sydney Vinel made 14 saves for the Lions.
The Tomcats will return to action Sunday when they take on the Thomas More Saint on the road. The ORLC game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
