KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Thiel College softball team concluded play in the Sunkissed Games Friday. The Tomcats lost to the Webster Gorloks 5-4 in eight innings and to the Rowan Profs 15-0 in five innings.
Thiel opened up a 3-0 lead against Webster with a 3-run effort in the third inning.
Bailey Hoover (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) drove in a pair of runs in the inning on a triple to right field.
Katlyn Pennell (Mooresville, N.C./Liberty Prep), the designated player, followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Hoover.
Thiel maintained a 3-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when the Gorloks scored four runs on three hits and an error. Thiel tied up the game in the seventh after
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) hit a 1-out double to right field.
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria), who pinch ran for Corradi, scored the game-tying run on an error by the left fielder.
The Tomcats were unable to score in the top of the eighth, and the Gorloks hit a trio of consecutive singles in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.
Shannon Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry) absorbed the loss. She allowed three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six batters.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) led the Tomcats at the plate with two hits. Hoover hit one triple and Corradi hit one double.
In Thiel's first game of the day the Rowan Profs built up a 7-0 lead after two innings and never looked back.
Pennell and
Taylor Williams (Tuscarawas, Ohio/Indian Valley) each recorded one hit in the loss for the Tomcats. Kristina Mueller went 4-for-4 for the Profs. Mueller tallied three RBIs and hit a triple.
The Tomcats are scheduled to host the Hiram Terriers Wednesday. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
