GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a pair of non-conference games Monday against the La Roche Redhawks at Tomcat Park. Thiel lost the first game 13-11 before winning the second game 8-0 in five innings.
 
Senior 
Shannon Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry) threw a 5-inning no-hitter in the second game. She whiffed six batters and allowed three walks.
 
The Tomcats scored five runs in the second inning. Freshman first baseman 
Bailey Hoover (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) drove in a pair of runs on a single to right field in the frame while 
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional), 
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk) and 
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) each singled and drove in a run.
 
Woytek tripled to center field in the third inning to increase the lead to 7-0 while Corradi drove in the final run the Tomcats would need on a single in the fifth inning.
 
Woytek went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the second game. Corradi, Hoover and Fike also collected two hits apiece.
 
In the first game, La Roche took a 2-0 first-inning lead when Kelsey Plato homered over the left field fence. The Tomcats cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first when 
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) drove in Woytek on a single down the right field line.
 
The Redhawks went on to score five runs in the second, two in the third and one run in the top of the fifth to hold a 10-1 lead.
 
But the Tomcats were far from done and responded with a 10-run effort in the bottom of the fifth to take an 11-10 lead.
 
Hoover, Woytek and Falce had the key hits in the fifth. Hoover drove in a pair of runs on single to center field. Woytek also drove in two runs on a single down the left field line, and Falce gave the Tomcats the lead when she smashed a 3-RBI double to right field.
 
However, La Roche scored three unanswered runs over the final two innings to secure the non-conference win.
 
Relief pitcher Kaylee Grassmyer earned the win for the Redhawks. She allowed one run on three hits in 2.1 innings. 
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) absorbed the loss for the Tomcats.
 
Woytek went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the first game. Falce went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and scored a run while Hoover went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Kelley also recorded two hits with an RBI and a run scored.
 
The Tomcats will host the Allegheny Gators Wednesday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the second game to follow at 5:30 p.m.
