GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season Saturday at Tomcat Park to the Grove City Wolverines, 12-5.
A six-run first inning for the Wolverines proved to be the difference in the game as the Tomcats were never able to regain the lead.
Thiel got on the board in the fourth when
Zach Hudecek (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) doubled to left to score
Alex Lam (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) and
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) to make it 6-2.
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) followed up with a single to score Hudecek making it 6-3 after four.
Grove City used a four-run fifth to put the game out of reach as it stood at 10-3 through five innings.
In the eighth, Giesey scored on a wild pitch and Lam scored on an error to make in 12-5. Both Giesey and Lam collected three hits on the day.
Thiel's road doubleheader against Mount Union Sunday has been postponed. Thiel will face Grove City again on Monday on the road. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
