GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team dropped a four-set match (3-1) to nonconference opponent Penn State Behrend Tuesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel dropped the first two sets of the match to dig themselves a 0-2 hole before bouncing back to take the third set 29-27 to extend the match.
In the match deciding fourth set, Thiel jumped out in front 5-1 to take control of the set. The Lions regained control as they went on a four-point run to make it 14-13. Thiel and Behrend battled back and forth but the Lions used yet another four-point run to take a now 20-15 advantage. Thiel was unable to close the gap and fell 25-21 to drop the set and the match.
In the four set match,
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) dished out 30 assists and
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) added 18 kills.
Jonathan Burkley (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) collected a game and career-high 7 blocks on the night.
The Tomcats will face two Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) opponents this weekend, first Cairn University on Friday at 7:00 p.m. then Neumann University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., both matches are at Beeghly Gymnasium.
