GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College men's basketball guard Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) drive and score with just 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation was the difference in the Tomcats 67-65 victory over the Wolverines of Grove City College in Beeghly Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup was all Thiel in the early going as the Tomcats jumped out to a 17-9 lead.

The Tomcats saw their largest lead of the game as Josh Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) was fouled on a drive but still scored to give him a chance at the line for a three-point play, Lumbus sank the free throw to put Thiel up 17 with just under five in the first half.

A late Isaac Williams three-pointer for the Wolverines put Grove City within seven as the teams went into the locker room with Thiel leading 35-28. Lumbus collected eight points and four rebounds in the half.

To start the second, Grove City quickly erased Thiel's lead to pull within three before the Tomcats went on an 8-0 run, Ozkaynak poured in six points during the run as he converted on back-to-back three-pointers. Thiel found themselves up 45-34 with 14:04 remaining in the half.

With just over 10 minutes remaining it appeared Thiel was in control as Thiel built a 16 point lead. Until Grove City went on an 8-0 run of their own to pull within seven with 4:11 remaining. The Wolverines continued to claw back in the game as they converted on back-to-back attempts from beyond the arc to make it just a four-point game with under three minutes left.

Another three-pointer from Grove City's Williams with just seven seconds remaining tied the game at 65-65, but gave enough time for the Tomcats to get the ball across half court before calling a timeout.

After the timeout, Ozkaynak gained possession and drove to the right side of the lane and laid it in with just 0.1 seconds remaining. Grove City was unable to answer as Thiel stole the inbounds pass to end the game and secure the victory.

It was a balanced attack for the Tomcats as five scorers were in double figures on the night. Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) collected a team-high 15 points. Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) added 12 points and Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) poured in 11 points including the game-winner. Lumbus and Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) each scored 10 points.

With the win over Grove City, Thiel improves to 7-15 overall and 5-12 in conference as they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on PAC opponent Chatham University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

In Thiel's last meeting with the Cougars, Thiel prevailed victorious at Beeghly Gymnasium 93-82.
