GROVE CITY, Pa. – Down two sets to none the Thiel College women's volleyball team stormed back to win the next three sets to take the match 3-2 over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Grove City College on Tuesday night.
After narrowly falling in the second set 28-26 the Tomcats rebounded in the third taking the set 25-19 to extend the match.
The fourth set was decided late as the two teams were tied at 20-20. Thiel jumped ahead though winning five of the next seven points to take the set 25-22.
In the fifth and deciding set, The Tomcats used their momentum as they built an early 8-4 lead. Thiel finished off Grove City as they took the set 15-11.
Morgan Harayda (Erie, Pa./Harborcreek) led Thiel's offense with 18 kills on the night, a new season-high. The freshman outside hitter hit .306 on the night. Another freshman collected another season-high performance as Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) tied her top mark of the season with 53 assists. Senior outside hitter Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) hit .379 on the way to 14 kills.
Defensively, Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge), Taylor Williams (Tuscarawas, Ohio/Indian Valley), Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview), Alex Geraci (Garrettsville, Ohio/Crestwood), and Grubbs all collected double-digit digs.
With the comeback victory, Thiel improved to 11-13 overall and 4-5 in the PAC.
The Tomcats are back in action on Thursday when they host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents. The PAC match will begin at 7 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
