LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Saint Vincent College on Saturday.
The Tomcats gained an early advantage as they took the first set 25-21 before dropping the second set 25-17 as the Bearcats evened the match at 1-1 after two.
Thiel regained the lead posting a 25-20 set win in the third but were unable to put the match away in the fourth as the Bearcats were kept alive with a 25-18 set win to force a deciding fifth game.
In the fifth, Thiel fought back from an early deficit as they rattled off four straight points in the set to take a 7-5 advantage. The Tomcats extended their lead to 12-8 with another four-point run and took the set 15-11.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) and Brie Bialota (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Plum) each collected double-digit kills in the five-set win as Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) recorded a match-high in assists with 41.
Defensively, Grubbs, Kelley, and Macy Jordan (York, Pa./York Suburban) each collected two blocks each in the match. Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) earned a team-high 23 digs.
With the result, Thiel improves to 12-14 overall and 5-6 in the PAC.
The Tomcats return to Beeghly Gymnasium on Tuesday as they host Bethany College in a PAC matchup, first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
