GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team suffered a 74-71 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium to the Bethany Bison.
The Tomcats held a 13-point lead at halftime (39-26) but the Bison opened the second half with a 21-9 run to get within a point with 13:36 left in regulation. The game remained close the rest of the way, and the Bison took the lead (72-71) with 16 seconds remaining on Christian Harris' layup.
Harris drained a pair of free throws with seven seconds left on the clock to give his team a three-point edge, and Thiel's last-second 3-point attempt was off the mark.
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) led the Tomcats with 18 points while
Tyreik Burton (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) scored 16 points and handed out six assists.
Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) scored 11 points while
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) scored 10 points and tallied a game-best nine rebounds.
Calique Jones led the Bison with a game-best 26 points. Liam Davis scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds while Harris scored 10 points. Nick Metz led the Bison with eight rebounds.
The Tomcats will host the Westminster Titans Monday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
