GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team competed in two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches Tuesday evening at Grove City College. Thiel fell to Geneva College in five sets before falling 3-0 to Grove City.
The Tomcats first faced the Golden Tornadoes and went five-sets only to have Geneva edge out Thiel 3-2.
Thiel dropped the first set 20-25 only to bounce back and take the second 25-23 and the third 30-28 to take a 2-1 set advantage headed to the fourth.
In the fourth, Geneva ran out to a decisive lead and would double up Thiel in the set taking it by a final of 25-12.
The deciding fifth set saw Geneva keeping their momentum as they would take the set 15-9.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) and Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) each recorded double-digit kills in the match with 13 and 11, respectively. As Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) collected a game-high 31 digs.
Thiel ended the night with a match against the hosting Wolverines. Thiel led the entirety of the first set until Grove City climbed back to tie the game 21-21. The Wolverines went on to take four of the next five points to take the set 25-22.
Grove City's late surge in the first followed them into the second set as the Wolverines dominated the set 25-13.
Grove City completed the sweep taking the third set 25-15.
With tonight's results, Thiel's record is now 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the PAC.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Thursday Sept. 28 in a PAC match at Bethany College as they look to even the season series with the Bison. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
