GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent La Roche College on Monday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats were swept by scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-14 to fall 3-0 to the Redhawks.
Thiel opened the first set with a 10-7 lead before a six-point run by La Roche put the Redhawks in control. The Tomcats battled and came within one as the score was 21-20 but failed to score another point and fell 25-20 to drop the first set.
The second set saw a back and forth battle as both teams went on rallies of their own to account for eight led changes throughout. Thiel held a 24-23 advantage with the set-point on the line but were unable to convert and allowed La Roche to climb back in the game, taking the set 26-24.
The deciding set was owned by the Redhawks as they jumped out to 13-1 lead to take control as they went on to take the set decidedly 25-14.
The Tomcats struggled offensively as no player recorded double-digit kills on the night and collected 29 attacking errors as a team.
With the loss, Thiel falls to 7-7 overall.
The Tomcats will be back in action on Wednesday Sept. 20 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match in Latrobe, Pa. against Saint Vincent. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
