GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team won their home opening match against non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend in five sets on Thursday night.
The Tomcats and Lions traded sets as the Tomcats took the first set 25-23 followed by a 27-25 second set victory by the Lions.
Thiel battled after dropping the second set and rebounded to take the third set 28-26. With a chance to take the match Thiel provided unable to clinch and fell 25-23 to force a fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Tomcats fell behind 3-0 before going on a five-point run to take the lead to make it 5-3. Thiel finished off the Lions by a final score of 15-11.
Two Tomcats recorded double-digit kills on the night as
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) and
Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) collected 12 and 11, respectively.
Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) had a game-high in assists with 28 and
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) recorded a game-high in digs with 28.
With the win, Thiel improves to 7-4 overall on the season.
The Tomcats will be back in action at Beeghly Gymnasium on Saturday Sept. 16 in a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchups against the Westminster
Titans and the Bethany Bison in Greenville, Pa.
