Waynesburg, Pa.  – The Thiel College women's volleyball team won their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener against Waynesburg University in a three set sweep on Tuesday night.

Thiel left no doubt in the first set running out to an 8-2 lead as the Tomcats grabbed the opening set 25-12. The second set saw more of the same for the Tomcats. A five point Tomcat run when the set was at 15-11 put the set out of reach and made it 20-11 in favor of Thiel. The Tomcats took the second set 25-17. In the deciding set the Yellow Jackets battled in the early going as the set was tied at 9-9 before the Tomcats regained a lead they would not relinquish, taking the set 25-19.

A balanced Tomcat attack was led by freshman outside hitter Taylor Williams (Tuscarawas, Ohio/Indian Valley) and sophomore outside hitter Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) as both collected six kills each on the night.

Junior setter Hannah Rossman (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) added a game-high 19 assists and junior middle hitter Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) blocked a game-high six attacks.

With the win, Thiel improves to 6-4 overall on the season and go to 1-0 in the PAC.

The Tomcats will be back in action at Beeghly Gymnasium on Thursday Sept. 14 in a non-conference matchup against Penn State Behrend beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Greenville, Pa.
