GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) 9-inning game against the 17
th-ranked Washington & Jefferson College Presidents Sunday afternoon. Thiel fell 7-5 to W&J.
The Tomcats jumped out to a four run lead on five hits and two fielding errors by the Presidents in the first.
Starter
Matt Gayda (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) kept the explosive President offense in check as he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits. Gayda picked up a no-decision.
W&J crept back in the game scoring four runs over six innings to put the Presidents within one.
Thiel gave up the lead in the seventh as Ryan Sciullo tripled to center field to plate one run before being driven in on a base hit by Kevin Begley to make it 6-5 in favor of W&J.
The Tomcats proved unable to regain the lead and fell by a final score of 7-5.
The Tomcats (21-17, 13-11 PAC) will return to action later in the week for the 2017 PAC Baseball Championship Tournament, exact seeding has yet to be determined but the Tomcats have clinched a spot in the tournament for the third consecutive year.
