WAYNESBURG, Pa. –
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) earned a pair of wins Wednesday on the road in Thiel's sweep over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Thiel won the first game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader 8-2 before picking up a 12-1 win in five innings in the second game.
Thiel opened scoring in the third inning of the first game thanks to RBI-singles by
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa. /Mohawk) and
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport). Waynesburg picked up a run in the fourth, but the Tomcats took all the momentum with a 6-run fifth inning.
Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg) had the key hit in the fifth, a 2-RBI double.
Falce went 2-for-4 in the first game with three RBIs. Woytek and
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also recorded a pair of hits apiece. Kelley allowed two runs on nine hits in the first game.
Kelley was arguably even better in the second game when she allowed one run on seven hits with five strikeouts. She also got plenty of run support with the Tomcats scoring three runs in the first, five in the fourth and four in the sixth to ice the game an inning early.
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) went 3-for-3 in the second game while Woytek also recorded three hits. Falce went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs while
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Thiel improved to 3-1 in PAC play with Wednesday's wins.
The Tomcats will host the Saint Vincent Bearcats Saturday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
