LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team suffered a 13-9 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) loss on the road Sunday to the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The loss was Thiel's first in ORLC play.
Saint Vincent led 7-0 with a little less than six minutes remaining before halftime. Thiel went on to score three straight goals before the end of the half, but Saint Vincent added a goal with 81 seconds remaining before the break to hold an 8-3 lead.
The Tomcats rattled off five straight goals in the third quarter to tie up the game, 8-8.
Edward Kargbo (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) scored two goals during the stretch while
John Smiley (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) netted the equalizer on a pass from
Kyle Reib (Erie, Pa./McDowell) with 5:57 remaining in the third quarter.
The Bearcats scored a goal late in the third quarter and went on to outscore the Tomcats 4-1 in the fourth quarter to earn the conference win.
Kargbo paced the Tomcats with four points (3G, 1A) while
Mike Bryant (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) tallied a hat trick (3G). Smiley scored two goals.
Ben Price led the Bearcats with five points (3G, 2A) while Frank Casile (3G, 1A) and Hunter Sharp (1G, 3A) each contributed four points.
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 12 saves for the Tomcats. Connor McMillen and Brandon Martin combined to make nine saves for the Bearcats.
The Tomcats (10-3, 5-1 ORLC) will conclude regular season play Saturday when they take on the Transylvania Pioneers on the road. The ORLC contest is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
