MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference 9-inning game to Allegheny College on Wednesday by a final score of 16-3.
The Tomcat offense went scoreless in the first two innings as the Gators opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on a double steal that scored Robert DiMaggio that made it 1-0.
Thiel had an opportunity to answer in the top of the third as
Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) walked before
Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) singled to left to have two runners on.
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) then hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
The Gators added three in the third as Andrew Dawson doubled to right field to score Cullen Flaherty before Jacob Shick belted a two-run homer to left field to make it 4-0 after three.

Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) before
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) singled through the left side and scored
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Dellert to pull the Tomcats within one. However, the Gators answered in the bottom of the inning with another run as Dawson's sacrifice bunt with one out scored a run to extend the lead to three after four.
Allegheny took control of the game in the fifth as six Gators scored on seven hits in the inning and held an 11-2 lead after five.
The Gators furthered their lead with a two-run sixth inning and a three-run eighth inning.
The Allegheny offense totaled 18 hits on the day, which is a season-high for hits allowed for Thiel.
Starter J.T. Bowen picked up his first loss of the season and Allegheny Starter Joe Nagel collected the win.
Thiel (17-11, 9-5 PAC) will return to action on Saturday when they take on the Thomas More College Saints at Tomcat Park. The first game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
