GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team suffered a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) losses Friday to the Thomas More Saints at Tomcat Park. Thiel lost the first game 5-1 before losing 12-3 in the second game.
The Saints built up a 4-0 lead in the first game. The Tomcats had a good opportunity to get back into the game in the fourth with bases loaded and just one out, but pitcher Alix DeDreu got out of the jam with an inning-ending double play.
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) and
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa. /Mohawk) led the Tomcats at the plate with two hits apiece in the first game. One of Woytek's hits was a double.
DeDreu allowed one unearned run on eight hits to earn her 10
th win of the season.
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) surrendered three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
The Saints took a big lead early in the second game and finished with a 12-3 win in five innings.
The Tomcats scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning.
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) drove in a pair of runs on a double down the left field line while Kelley pushed one run across the plate with a single down the right field line.
Kelley led the Tomcats in the second game with two hits, one of which was a double.
Dallis Knotts earned the win in the second game. She allowed one hit over three innings.
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they host the Bethany Bison at Tomcat Park. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
