Tomcats score 20 goals in ORLC win over Titans

Scherer leads Thiel with seven goals

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) play Wednesday with a 20-14 win over the Westminster Titans at Alumni Stadium.

The game went back-and-forth early on until the Tomcats scored four consecutive goals over the final 3:14 of the first half to hold a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored the first of Thiel's goals during the four-goal run on a pass from Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley). Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored a man-advantage goal with 66 seconds remaining in the first half, and Melody Zuniga (Fort Meade, Md./Meade) scored 10 seconds later. Myesha Fisher (Cleveland, Ohio/John Adams) went on to score on a pass from Rickens with 41 seconds remaining before halftime to give the Tomcats a five-goal advantage at the break.

Scherer led the Tomcats with seven goals, which tied her for the second most goals scored in a single game in program history. Cassy Mahdi holds the single-game record (8, 2013).

Also for the Tomcats, Rickens recorded six points (3G, 3A) while Quinn tallied five points (2G, 3A). Bria Braddock led the Titans with seven goals.

Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) earned the win for the Tomcats with nine saves. Jesse Reichard made seven saves for the Titans.

The Tomcats will return to action Saturday when they host the Mount St. Joseph Lions at Alumni Stadium. The ORLC contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
