NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats scored four fourth-quarter goals Wednesday and came back to earn a 9-8 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORCL) win on the road over the Westminster Titans.
Thiel trailed at halftime (3-2) and after three quarters (6-5) but outscored Westminster 4-2 over the final 15 minutes to earn the conference victory.
Mike Bryant (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) scored an unassisted goal to tie up the game (6-6) a little less than seven minutes into the fourth quarter.
Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) and
Liam Stickle (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) followed with unassisted goals of their own to give the Tomcats a two-goal edge.
Westminster sliced Thiel's lead down to a single goal with 11:28 remaining, but Bryant got that goal back roughly one minute later on another unassisted goal, which turned out to be the game-winner.
The Titans scored a man-advantage goal with roughly five minutes remaining in regulation, but the Tomcats refused to give up another goal down the stretch and held on for the conference win.
Edward Kargbo (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) led the Tomcats with three points (2G, 1A). Bryant and Stickle each contributed two goals apiece.
Ryan Shorts paced Westminster with four points (2G, 2A).
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 13 saves to earn the win for the Tomcats. Carter Hall denied 21 shots for the Titans.
The Tomcats (8-2, 3-0 ORLC) will return to action Saturday when they take on the Mount St. Joseph Lions on the road. The ORLC game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
