ALTHOL SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team was defeated in non-conference play on the road Wednesday by the Hilbert Hawks, 13-11.
Thiel led Hilbert at halftime (7-5) and after three quarters (10-8). Hilbert earned the non-conference win by outscoring Thiel 5-1 over the final 15 minutes.
Hilbert scored four straight goals in the fourth to take a 12-10 lead with a little more than nine minutes remaining in regulation.
Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) cut the lead in half on an unassisted goal with 3:35 left to play, but the Hawks scored a minute later and held on to earn the win.
Evans II led the Tomcats with four goals. Also for Thiel,
John Smiley (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) scored two goals while
Nick Yannazio (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) (1G, 1A),
Liam Stickle (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (1G, 1A) and
Edward Kargbo (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) (2A) each tallied two points.
Tyler Nicoloff led the Hawks with eight points (4G, 4A) while Edward Mathias recorded six points (4G, 2A).
Charles Wistner (Buffalo, N.Y./Orchard Park) made 13 saves for the Tomcats while Adam Zawadzki denied six shots for the Hawks.
The Tomcats (6-2, 1-0 ORLC) will host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The Ohio River Lacrosse contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
