Harrisonburg, Va. – The Thiel Tomcats split two matches on Friday. Thiel fell to Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-14) in a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) match-up. Then went on to defeat York College 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-13) in a non-conference match-up.
Thiel was swept in the first three sets by Eastern Mennonite. The Royals were led by William Ragland with 13 kills and seven digs, also Christian Taylor had a match-high 37 assists.
The loss drops the Tomcats to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in the CVC.
The Tomcats rebounded in the second match of the night as they swept the Cardinals 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-13).
Thiel was led by
Thad Paunovich (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) with eight kills and
Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) who dished out a match-high 34 assists.
The non-conference win improves the Tomcats to 6-12 overall.
The Tomcats (6-12, 2-6 CVC) will return to action Saturday when they face Marymount University in Arlington Va. The CVC match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
