FORT MYERS, Fla. – St. John's University defeated Thiel College 10-3 in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida Friday morning.
St. John's scored five runs in the first four innings before Thiel answered in the bottom of the fourth as they scored three runs by way of RBI's by
Jonathan Oden (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and
Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville).
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) scored in the inning on a wild pitch as well which made it 5-3 in favor of St. John's after four.
The Tomcats never improved their two run deficit as the Johnnies scored seven more runs in the final five innings.
The Tomcats scored just three runs and left 11 runners on base on the day.
St. John's Starter Alex Kendall picked up his second win of the season. Kendall pitched seven innings with seven strike outs, and allowed no earned runs.
Mitchell went 2-for-4 which lead Tomcat batters on the day. Thiel Starter
Nick Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) picked up his first loss of the year. Bucci threw five innings and had five strike outs.
The Tomcats (3-4) return to action in their final game of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. as they take on the United States Coast Guard Academy at the Player Development Complex, Field #5 in Fort Myers, Florida.
