Greenville, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a five-set match Wednesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium to the Penn State Behrend Lions.
 
Thiel won the first set of the non-conference matchup 25-21, and then dropped the second set by a score of 25-14. The Tomcats rallied to win the third set by a score of 25-22, but the Lions won the final two sets with scores of 25-19 and 15-11 to win the match.
 
Cody Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the Tomcats with a match-high 26 kills while Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) racked up 17 kills and nine digs. Zach Rombach (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had a match-high with 52 assists.
 
The Lions improved to 3-5 with the win. Dillon Hildebrand and Trenton Munk led Penn State Behrend with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Also, Calvin Nowicki had 37 assists while Tyler Herrmann tallied 14 digs.
 
The Tomcats will return to action Friday when they host the Alvernia University Crusaders at Beeghly Gymnasium. The Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
