Tomcats advance to PAC Championship Tournament Semifinals

Thiel defeats Grove City in quarterfinals, 69-58

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament semifinals with a 69-58 quarterfinal win over the Grove City Wolverines Tuesday night at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Thiel, the third seed in the tournament, will take on the second-seeded Thomas More Saints on the road Thursday in the tournament semifinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
 
The Tomcats grinded out the win over the Wolverines in the second half. Mert Ozkaynak (Izmir, Turkey/T.C. Williams) tied up the game 41-41 on a three-pointer with roughly 14 minutes remaining in the second half. Clandell Cetoute (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) followed with a dunk less than a minute later to give the Tomcats a lead that they would not give up the rest of the game.
 
Freshman guard Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) led the Tomcats with 20 points while recording four rebounds and three steals. Gosley made 8-of-11 shots from the floor, including 2-of-2 from three-point range.
 
Ozkaynak scored 15 points while Terrance Holloway (Farrell, Pa./Farrell), another freshman guard, scored 10 points. Holloway also distributed seven assists while recording six rebounds and four steals. LeAndre Jackson (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) also chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals while Cetoute notched game-bests with nine rebounds and four blocks.
 
Andrew Beckman paced the Wolverines with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Nate Peters scored 14 points while handing out four assists. Cory Huff also contributed 10 points.
 
The Tomcats edged the Wolverines in points in the paint (36-26), points off turnovers (23-13), fast break points (20-4) and bench points (22-11).
